Lejla Kalamujić was born in Sarajevo in 1980. She graduated in philosophy and sociology from the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo. She is the author of short story collections Anatomija osmijeha (The Anatomy of a Smile), Zovite me Esteban (Call me Esteban) and Požuri i izmisli grad (Hurry and Dream up a City). In 2015, Zovite me Esteban won the Edo Budiša Award of Istria County for the best regional collection of short stories. The collection Požuri i izmisli grad was awarded the Štefica Cvek Award. In addition to stories, she also published a book of plays Šake pune oblaka (A Fistful of Clouds). Dramas from the books Ljudožderka ili kako sam ubila svoju porodicu (Maneater or How I Killed My Family) and Ugasimo svjetlo (Let’s Turn off the Lights) were performed at the Bosnian National Theater in Zenica. Her stories and plays have been translated into several languages.
