Petra Žagar-Šoštarić, University of Rijeka, Croatia

Petra Žagar-Šoštarić is head of the Department of German Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Rijeka, Croatia, and assistant professor for German Literature and Literary Translation. She holds a Ph.D. in literary studies. Her doctoral thesis entitled Popkultur- und Popliteratur (Pop Culture and Pop Literature) focused on the impact of media and language on post-1960s literature. Her further academic endeavors include involvement as a research associate at the Austrian Library in Rijeka as well as collaboration on various international scholarly projects, European projects, higher education in Croatia, and projects of the Croatian Ministry of Education. Since 2001 she has published extensively on literary translations, history of translation, and legal translation in the form of chapters in following edited volumes: Refocusing Legal Translation as Transcultural Communication: A Battle Over Concepts (in publishing procedure, 2017); Die Regeln der Freiheit einer künstlerischen Gestaltung. Literaturübersetzung (in publishing procedure, 2017); Der deutsche Witz in kroatischer Übersetzung. Wer lacht da noch? (2017). She is also as a coeditor of the volume Beiträge zur Translation von gestern, heute und morgen (2017).
